WHAT IS LOCATE?
LOCATE is a new online service form the British Foriegn Office that lets you register your whereabouts while you're abroad. So, if you've caught up in a crisis where you are living, British consular officials are able to contact you to help and can let family and friends know that you are safe.
WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP?
Although it's unlikely that you would become involved in a situation requiring consular help, you can never predict what might happen.
Natural disasters such as forest fires and earthquakes or outbreaks of civil unrest, for example, could mean that a situation could change very quickly in any country. And if you are hading off the beaten track, LOCATE lets you explore far-flung places in teh knowledge that you can be more easily located in the event of a crises.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
You need to register the details of your residence and the person(s) living with you. Just visit www.fco.gov.uk/travel and click on LOCATE to sign up. You can also register details of your family and friends so taht they can be contacted with news in the event of you being affected by an incident abroad.
